JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores boasts the largest assortment of fabric, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, knitting, crochet, jewelry and other crafts under one roof. With store sizes ranging from 10,000 sf to 25,000sf, JoAnn distinguishes itself from the rest of the craft category by including fabrics and sewing accessories for making clothes at home. Founded in 1943 by a pair of German couples who had recently immigrated to the United States. With approximately 850 stores in 49 states, Joann’s is one of the largest specialty craft and fabric retailers in the United States. In 2012 they were acquired by the private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners. JoAnn focuses on both large retail markets as well as smaller rural markets where competition is usually minimal.
